Finn

We drive through the day and into the night, making sure I touch on nightfall as we enter New Jersey. Angel hasn’t spoken a word the whole journey, just staring wordlessly out of the window. I’ve held her hand and drawn circles on her thighs reassuringly. I’ve attempted to make jokes, started general fuckin’ chit-chat. Anything to take her mind away from wherever the fuck it is. But to no avail; she’s a shell. I kick myself internally. Am I doing the right thing? Fuck. I pound my hand onto the steering wheel. Her eyes flick toward me. “Are you okay?” Concern laces her voice.

If that’s all I needed to do for a reaction, I’d have done it a few fucking hours ago.

I nod and give her a grin. Fake-as-fuck.

She nods and goes back to gazing out into the darkness.
